Global Health Residency Application Process
Now accepting applications for July 2011 entering class
The Duke Global Health Residency Program offers physicians engaged in post-graduate medical training the opportunity to broaden their existing training to address health disparities in resource-poor settings and acquire clinical and research skills relevant to careers in global health.
Duke candidates must contact their Program Director to verify eligibility. Application information will be distributed internally through the participating departments. External candidates are encouraged to check specialty-specific eligibility information on the Curriculum Per Department page. Please note that external recruitment is limited to Obstetrics and Gynecology and Emergency Medicine tracks.
Preference will be given to individuals who have already demonstrated a commitment to address health disparities and who intend to pursue a career in global health, particularly within resource poor settings. Criteria for candidate selection include:
Strong recommendation from Residency Program Director
Academic qualifications
Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and cross cultural awareness/sensitivity
Relevance of global health training to future career plans
Prior international experience
Strength of personal interview

Application deadline for the July 2010 entering class was October 19, 2009.

Applicants are required to provide the following:
Two letters of recommendation from faculty, including one from your Residency Program Director. Faculty members should send their recommendation letters directly to cecelia.pezdek@duke.edu.
Updated curriculum vitae.
A brief (1-3 pages) personal statement describing your reasons for pursuing the Global Health Residency Program. Please include:
- A description of any prior work/experiences overseas related to caring for underserved populations.
- Personal qualities that will prepare you for this position.
- How this program will help you accomplish your career goals.
